Building a Battery with Nissan LEAF Modules
If you're using Nissan LEAF modules in a DIY battery, you'll need the right hardware to safely connect and compress the cells. In most builds, I recommend using a complete busbar kit—it saves time and avoids mismatched connections.
Tip: Most builds use terminal busbars for series connections and center tap busbars for accessing the midpoint between cells.
Common Configurations
Each module is ~7.3V nominal. Combine in series for common system voltages:
- 48V system: 7 modules → ~51V
-
24V system: 3–4 modules → ~22–29V
Note: 4 modules can be high for some 24V inverters at full charge. -
EV packs:
- 48 modules → ~360–400V (stock Leaf)
- 54–60 modules → 400V+ (custom builds)
-
Other systems:
- 12–16 modules → 96–120V (motorcycles, boats, small EVs)
This makes LEAF modules a flexible option for off-grid solar and energy storage systems.
